Saint-Gobain Ceramic Materials manufactures a variety of products for heat treating or bright annealing steel items or brazing various metals. Heat treatment processes are performed either in batch furnaces or in continuous furnaces, including pusher, rotary hearth, mesh-belt and walking beam types. Roller hearth furnaces fitted with Silit ®SK or Crystar® 2000  Advanced SiC rollers may replace the pusher type.

For the lower temperatures, Silicate bonded SiC materials - Carbofrax® D and Carbofrax® M - are mostly used.
But for hearth plates and skid rails, Alumina Alfrax® 301P or Mullite Mullfrax® EM may be preferred solutions depending on the atmosphere.

For higher temperatures, a nitride bonded SiC material - Refrax®20 is recommended. Cast Refrax®, a cast version of Refrax® is available when it comes to complicated shapes. The highest temperatures are achieved in the walking beam furnace. In these extreme conditions, high purity alumina bricks - Alundum AL 100 andAlfrax® 101  - are required.
